The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes is a magnificent church built in the Gothic style. This hundred-year-old church is in the St. Joseph’s College complex and its elegant 200 ft tall spire is visible for quite a distance. The façade of the church has remained untouched with the administration not even painting it, as they wish to protect its antiquity.Joseph is one of the popular ones. It is also one of the oldest Churches of India.

It is situated near the Teppakulam, in the Centre of the town. The church also neighbours the famous Maingaurd Gate, which has been a part of many historical events associated with the colonial rule. This church also has a nearby college known as the St. Joseph’s College, which is also a world famous education Centre and has produced renowned personalities like R. Venkataraman, and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Apart from the St. Joseph’s Church, the St. John Church of Trichy is also quite popular. This church was built in1812 and is known for its historic Christian monuments. Its main attractions are its louvered side doors that are opened to turn the church into an open pavilion and its cemetery.

St. Lourdes Church is definite must-visit on your Trichy itinerary – it’s stunningly beautiful both inside and outside and its stained glass panels with stories from the Bible, are truly lovely. You can spend a lot of time there admiring its many attractions. The Church attracts people from all faiths who leave little rolled up pieces of paper there with their prayers jotted down on them. The Sunday mass attracts a crowd of at least 6000 – a testament to its popularity as a place of worship.
